The Quarry Extension at
and adjacent to the Westbury White Horse
Dear Editor
The county council approval of the field that runs adjacent
to the White Horse in Westbury being given over to the
Lafarge Quarry Extension is a historical fact that I
opposed. I did so not as to deny the company a new chalk
source but because of its location in respect of the White
Horse and that I thought the chalk could be found from
other sources.
We have heard that the current situation at Lafarge has
changed dramatically and that production will be reduced.
That being the case and with the current situation at the
plant being in the state of flux will there be a necessity
to open the new field up to exploitation. Could the
existing stocks of chalk be sufficent and does this change
to the production output, change in any way the decision
made by our county planners and decision makers?
Until such a time comes as to the company's ability to
determine their future should' nt the decision be made to
protect that which may be impossible to replace, or is it
truly too late
Yours Faithfully
