Lafarge to half workforce and production by 2/3 using just one kiln and two mills. Trials of alternative fuels SRF are to be still considered but any trial would neccesitate capital investment in delivery mechanisms which Westbury will have to bid for from Head Office
Meanwhile the new chalk quarry still looks like it is going ahead which should be also put into abeyance whilst the future of the plant is being considered. I have copied our MP into this email so he can find out whether there is any chance of the quarry receiving an eleventh hour and 59th minute reprieve.
We wish the staff of Lafarge well and those who are retiring or looking for alternate work prosperity.
The EA are aware from our continuing to gather evidence that the community have been recently suffering from plume grounding black smoke and nuisance odours and have indicated that they are having to take this matter seriously and are also looking at monitoring. If this does not happen then I think the community should look at some class action on nuisance within the home environment
